A Question for everyone who thinks politics in Albany is dirty

I'd like to know how someone who is not independently wealthy is supposed to get into politics?

How is an ordinary person supposed to reside both in Albany and his home district, have offices in both places, commute to and fro, be properly attired, work part time as a legislator and part time in the private sector without trying to get monetary support from others, Are these crimes really "participating in politics without lots of one's own money" and is this charge brought selectively, as I can't see how anyone not wealthy an pull off the act of being an Albany legislator without getting money one way or the other.

PS The same question applies to Washington and every state capital.
