Three strikes you're out for NYC cab drivers

Three accident reports or three moving violations and you do not get to renew your hack license. I am not making this one up. Tell me it is not fair, and  that "they can't do that to me." Well, they can do that to you! Next time a passenger tells you to swing a u turn tell him what he can swing.

NEW FITNESS RULES NOTICEPLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU HAND IN YOUR APPLICATION 

Recently the TLC made some Rule changes to the license application process. The new Rules include a one (1), two (2)and three (3) year application ban depending on an applicant’s TLC and DMV history.Please note that it is the applicant’s responsibility to review their application for any bans. If TLC staff either could notor failed to determine that an application should be rejected upon submission, the license application fees will not be refunded. An applicant should not submit an application if the applicant’s TLC or DMV history matches the descriptions listed below.One (1) Year Ban ‐ (if during the previous year)* More than three (3) traffic accidents within a single year. The one (1) year ban will start from the date of the last accident.* The traffic infraction of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.* A prior TLC application was denied because the applicant was found not fit to hold a license. The one (1) year ban will start from the date the prior application was denied.* Illegal Use of Drugs‐ determined by a positive result on a drug test required by the TLC and where the drug test result was unchallenged or unsuccessfully challenged. The one (1) year ban will start from the date of the failed drug test.Two (2) Year Ban ‐ (if during the previous two years)* Conviction of six (6) or more TLC Rule violations while holding any license or licenses issued by the Commission. The two (2) year ban will start from the date of the last violation.* Any act constituting for‐hire operation of a motor vehicle without a valid TLC License, except for the traffic infraction of unlicensed operation.

As part of the renewal process, you must submit your renewal application and the items in the attached checklist. While we will be reviewing the renewal application and supporting documents that you submit to us, your record as a first year TLC Driver will be also be reviewed by our TLC staff during the renewal process. Based on the results of this review, TLC staff will determine if your license is qualified for renewal. If you fail the background review you will not be renewed and will have to re‐apply as a new driver.
We will be reviewing the following: • Convictions of 3 or more moving violations
• Convictions of 2 speeding violations • Excessive points on TLC license • Any Violations of TLC rules
Probationary Drivers Review
• Recent criminal history • Conviction of DUI or DWI • Refusing to submit to a breathalyzer • Found guilty of leaving the scene of an accident • Excessive points on Driver’s license within the past year
