Life is cheap.

I read in a comment on Cif that this guy says he heard a scratching on his door and when he went to see what was going on he found a very subdued fox that soon died. It seems the poor creature had ingested a poison and feeling great distress he sought out a human being to help out. The fox then had thought out his situation, knew in some sense that human beings have medicines? and can stave off suffering and death.

I read a story about an exotic talking bird that had meaningful conversations with its keepers.

Then there is the fact that every cell in your body has its own distinct life. White blood cells swim around looking for trouble.
