Is William Wachtel going to be named by The Mayor to head up the Taxi and Limousine Commission? I think so, maybe.

If you put this url into your browser and hit "go" you'll see some pretty hostile stuff about William Wachtel from me,  yours truly.  Even a video.

Now let me make this clear: I  not particularly against him getting the job.  I don't expect any of these suits with connections to do anything much for yellow cab taxi drivers. Even were I to be miraculously put in that job I would have to be mindful that NYC is a full fledged partner in The Medallion Syndicate.  If I wanted to force The Syndicate to treat the drivers decently this could possibly crash the medallion market and cost NYC big bucks.

What Wachtel or whoever else can do is stop the Green Taxis in their tracks and get rid of the killer ehail taxi apps. These two steps are essential TLC contributions to Vision Zero, the Mayors plan to do away with traffic fatalities.

Wachtel is a transportation supposed maven and a big wheel in Drum Major Institute a corporate "progressive" think tank.

Someone(s) has been googling Wachtel and clicking onto my Wachtel post. Vetting?

Veteran New York Taxi Driver To Testify at Taxi and Limousine Commission December 14th To Urge Safety Considerations Be Primary in Ongoing Pilot Program. Says Hailo and Uber Driver Apps Foster Distracted Driving, Place Public at Risk.

Today Eugene Weixel a veteran of 23 years driving cab cited cyber security expert Joseph Steinberg's article in last December 14th's  Forbes  Magazine where he made the point regarding e hail apps that public safety ought to trump  any perceived convenience.

Weixel cited his own article in last August first's Guardian on line

and several posts at

http://pleasedontvomitinthetaxi.blogspot.com

Weixel urges that the commissioners cease authorization of e hail app operations until they can honestly and confidently tell the public they have nothing to fear from these apps in the hands of characteristically tired taxi drivers who typically  spend 72 hours per week driving not to mention unpaid hours in garages and in long commutes.

Clarity is needed: Has the law required fleets and brokers to provide disability insurance to taxi drivers all along? Another Charge of the nincompoop brigade : Yassky and Desai.

If so then what do the New York taxi and Limousine Commission and the New York State Workers Compensation Board intend to do about it? And how dare the Taxi and Limousine Commission force drivers to buy this insurance from the incompetent Taxi Workers Alliance if by law they should have been forcing the millionaire medallion owners to buy it for the drivers?
Another fail from the Desai/Yassky nincompoop brigade? Yeah, google  New York taxi driver assault two year veto.
Yet they go on taking six cents a ride from the drivers for eight weeks now while  providing ZERO SERVICE.
BUT WHO KNEW?
