To #RobertKnight of #Earthwatch on #WBAI regarding the #NewYorkCityMayoralrace and #RichieHavens.

Robert, I'd like to introduce myself or reintroduce myself to you. Many years ago I wrote some complaining letters to WBAI you might or might not have seen and at one time you got into the taxi I was driving and we had a brief conversation about what I do not recall, it having been years ago. I used to meet Carletta Joy Walker and drive to her home from time to time. WBAI was located around 38th or 40th Street as my wobbly memory tells me. Anyhow this is tuff meant to help you recall who I am and the old complaints, etc. are water long gone under the bridge.

I catch your show, which I enjoy, sporadically, and I happened to hear your tribute program to Richie Havens.  I did appreciate that show and do fondly remember a concert long, long ago where I heard and saw Richie Havens perform.  The world did lose a friend and like you I mourn Richie Havens.

You mentioned on that show that you will be moderating a debate of candidates for New York City mayor at Cooper Union this Saturday. Although I am an "unknown" I have declared my candidacy for that office as a write-in protest candidate. At this point I wouldn't presume to be included or to ask that I be included in the discourse you will be moderating, but I beg your indulgence that you read and give some thought to what I am about to say.

I am a full time taxi driver, a former Child Protective worker at Administration for Children's Services, a former US soldier, a father of kids who went through the public schools here like I did, a man who has 67 years of living as a 99 percenter New Yorker.

There are some issues that are not being considered so far in the campaign discourse that I wish you would remind all the candidates about:

1- PCBs in the schools. This is a matter rarely mentioned and it really should be at the top of the list, as we are talking about 1,200 New York City schools where the children are unnecessarily exposed to this harmful substance. I will cite here my post on the matter which cites back to what you would most likely consider to be a legitimate source. Mayor Bloomberg has a ten year plan to remove this substance from our children's schools. Christine Quinn has talked about a five year plan. John Liu wants to borrow money from Wall Street to try to abate the PCB problem in "only" three years. It is my contention that PCBs in the public schools represent a public health emergency that simply must be addressed forcefully and without regard for monetary considerations, which are the considerations that dominate any discussion of this matter. I say that the money can be gotten not by begging or bribing Wall Street but by fair taxation, which I will also be going into in this piece. Here are some of my posts on the matter:

PCBs pollute NYC's classrooms. Among other deleterious impacts, PCB exposure in low doses impairs forever a child's ability to learn. How ironic then that we are having an election for mayor of the cty and no candidate but ...

2- Taxation. You may not know that New York State actually has a stock transfer tax that it levies on Wall Street. The problem is that New York State refunds the money to Wall Street - 16 billion dollars a year!

As mayor I will yell and scream, and lead a march on Albany and on Wall Street to get out share - eight billion dollars a year! This ought to be more than enough to pay for taking toxins out of classrooms, wouldn't you agree? And there is the little matter of the thirty-one trillion dollars the global oligarchy is hiding away in some (not all) of the global tax haven pseudo nations of the world.

If a group of journalists can find a hidden 31 trillion dollars do you mean to tell me that the FBI, CIA, NSA, MI5, eyc, could not and cannot do the same? That seems rathe far fetched to me, what say you? Angry yet?

I've pointed out that a group of journalists has been able to uncover the who, the where, the how much, the account numbers of tax dodging plutocrats who are utilizing the Cayman Islands, the British West Indies and Cook Island to doge their fair share of taxes. At this point all of this money ought to be fair game for the tax authorities of the world, including New York City's tax authorities! If the NYPD detectives are worth anything at all they will do two things: 1- Investigate vehicular assault and manslaughter cases and 2-Get the information that the journalists were able to get about the hidden trillions and thereby allow my tax getters to go get the money that New York City is owed, plus penalties, plus interest.  Segueing to my third point which is that the NYPD that we all know has to be abolished and can be.

3-  Abolish the NYPD and re[lace it with a people's safety progtam. the challenge to today's detectives is that they'd best get snapping on that auto assault and auto manslaughter stuff and that money thing too, you know the Cayman Islands and all. That's how they might prove that they should keep their jobs in the new force. Otherwise we get the top grads at the CUNY John Jay College of Criminal Justice to be professional investigators, not gun thugs, in the new non NYPD set up.
