Part of the way with John Liu? I'm not with him. He's too easy going.
He has a plan he says, to finanve the removal of PCBs from the schools. We need a next mayor who says "I don't care what it costs or how we finance it, our kids will not sit in classrooms exposed to dangerous chemicals, period. That is my promise, that is job one."
And I've heard a radio spot for Liu that bothers me too. He's one of these "for all the people" guys. That's a cool trick. The one percent have their agendas and those do not comport with the 99 percent, period. A guy in a circus can ride two well trained horses at the same time, but the one percent and the ninety-nine percent? Not a chance.

In spite of "Sicko" Christine Quinn's best efforts a few hundred thousand workers will get paid sick days
You can't say Christine didn't try, really she did. No doubt she's in therapy and the people in her group will be hearing about it for sure.
But in spite of her and Michael Bloomberg a bunch of people will get sick days off so maybe the next time you go get some fast food you can know that the person who just put your platter together is not sneezing out a flu virus for you. But wait. No. The new rule will only go into effect next year and only cover establishments with over 15 employees and it is not clear how that works for temps and part timers.

When will Chuck Hagel pull a rabbit out of his hat, and just what will that rabbit look like?
I predict that in the not too distant future the world, or at least the US public, will be told breathless stories breathlessly of some great, good, nearly impossible thing that will be done by Chuck Hagel.
I remember having discussions with passengers who told me that the Jewish Lobby would succeed in finishing Hagel off. Well, for one thing they failed. For another thing the Jewish Lobby is two headed and one head was very much for Hagel to become War Secretary,
Hagel would be ideal to lead the nation into more austerity and another war, just as Obama and Harry Reid have squashed the will of the people and given us the sequester (austerity) and an imperial presidency evan Bush could not dream of complete with presidential orders of execution of citizens and non citizens alike.
What the rabbit will look like I do not know but it is on the way.

It's not so unusual that a striper gets into my taxi at around two in the morning and it's not unusual that they like a superficial conversation with a taxi driver either. Both notice, for example that when one had a good night money wise so did the other and vice-verse. This young lady had a bit more on her mind- her boyfriend is not seriously pursuing his career nor looking for stopgap employment either, and she is nor happy being his support - or maybe she is. The City Fathers, in their wisdom had publicly pondered the notion that taxi drivers become mandatory sex worker counselors. Wha do you think of this brief excerpt from this :counseling" session?

The New York Taxi Workers Alliance is calling for an investigation after a cab driver said a passenger attacked him and police told him he would be arrested if he made a complaint.

Haroon Rashid of Brooklyn says a male passenger punched him repeatedly and then bit him behind his ear at 57th Street and 10th Avenue in Manhattan Sunday night.
Rashid said that even though he was bleeding, the police officer never called an ambulance and let the other man go.
He drove himself to the hospital, where he ended up getting stitches.
"Police came, they told me ‘we are going to arrest you both.’ I was bleeding, he was not even bleeding. Still, they don't show me any sympathy," said Rashid.
"This is outrageous and it is totally unacceptable," said Bhairavi Desai of the New York Taxi Worker’s Alliance.
Police say they have no record of any complaint or a 911 call.

New York cabbies have notoriously few places where they can take a break to use a toilet, get a snack, even zone out for a few minutes. You can do that sort of thing at an airport, but William Wachtel doesn't want you to do that on the land he leases in a sweetheart deal with the government (known to school children as servants of "we the people.")
